Salobre New Course

In the south of Gran Canaria, within the Salobre Golf & Resort in Maspalomas, the New Course adds its own character to the complex. It was built in 2008 with a design by Ron Kirby and, after several reconfigurations, currently operates as a 9-hole, par 36 course, integrated into a flexible system that combines layouts with the Old Course.

The terrain sets the tone from the very first shot. The volcanic topography, ravines, and uneven ground require careful thought for each shot. It is not a long course in absolute terms, but it is demanding in terms of placement. Elevated tees offer a view of the valley and the resort, while the fairways, undulating and framed by rock and native vegetation, reward strategy over power. Kirby chose to respect the landscape, adapting the design to the natural shapes rather than trying to tame them.

The result is a technical course, with holes that alternate between clear risks from the tee and others that are more contained, where the key lies in the second shot. Some greens, well defended, require precision in distance. Since 2022, the New Course has operated as part of three possible 9-hole loops within the resort, allowing for variation in the experience during multi-day stays.
