Royal Golf Marrakech

The Royal Golf Marrakech holds a unique place in the history of golf in Morocco. Founded in 1927, it is one of the oldest courses in the country and an early reference point for golf in North Africa. Its proximity to downtown Marrakech enhances its urban character without losing the sense of refuge provided by mature, well-integrated vegetation.

The club has 27 holes spread across two courses that interact with each other from different perspectives. The original layout, designed by Arnaud Massy and Gustave Golias, follows the classic design codes of the 1920s. Rather, the contained fairways, subtle doglegs, and protected greens force you to think about every shot. It is not a long course, but it penalises poor positioning and rewards patient players who understand that strategy is more important than power here. The latter course introduces a somewhat more open layout. Without disrupting the overall aesthetic of the complex, it offers greater width on some tees and a more fluid rhythm, making it particularly comfortable for average handicaps without losing interest for experienced players.

The vegetation, mainly composed of palms, olive trees, and eucalyptus, is not just decorative. It accompanies the game, visually defines the holes, and softens the climate, even during the warmer months. The clubhouse maintains a sober and classic style, consistent with the history of the course, and reinforces the feeling of playing in a place with its own identity. Its value lies in its continuity, respect for its origins, and a playing experience that remains current nearly a century later.
